Deep Time
Deep Time is understood as layered, relational, and more-than-human. Geological duration is part of it, but so are the cycles and rhythms through which bodies, places, planets, materials, weather, dreams, and histories change.
These times do not unfold separately. They overlap and act upon one another. A body is moving through biological, seasonal, planetary, historical, and remembered time at once. A place carries geological, hydrological, ecological, ancestral, and political time. Making happens inside these relationships.
Deep Time Lab is an ongoing artistic apprenticeship to these overlapping temporalities. I use timekeeping, observation, dream practice, making, and attention to place to study how creative work changes when time is approached as something we participate in rather than as a neutral container around us.
The Lab
The Lab holds a series of time-bound artistic inquiries. Each begins from a particular set of conditions and develops its own methods, materials, records, and visual language.
Begun during a fifth-house Libra profection year with Venus in Cancer as Time Lord.
Methods
Astrology, particularly annual profections, is one of the Lab's timekeeping methods. Dream practice, observation, material processes, and sustained attention to place offer other ways of encountering time from within it.
The methods change according to the inquiry.
